  • How do auditions work in drama schools? (french schools FAQ

Each school will ask you to present two dialogue scenes in front of judges.

 

The three most important things to find to get started are: the coach , the scenes , and a line of dialogue:

 

 

  • When are the auditions? Are there several stages?

Theatre school auditions take place between February and May .

The six theatre schools in Quebec have several audition stages. Most have an initial audition before judges, and then, if you are accepted, a workshop with the teachers and other candidates.

  • How long does it take to prepare properly?

Ideally: starting in the fall . Many begin at the end of summer, while others, a little later, start in February!

The sooner you start, the more time the tools and work have to integrate, and the more solid, precise, and confident your playing will be!

  • I've never taken any classes. Can I still try for the auditions?

Of course! The coaching sessions are adapted to all levels , and we will take the time together to help you progress!

The experience you gain will be of great use to you for the auditions: you will go from being behind to being ahead !

Note : If you arrive quite late in the process, that's not a problem either, I will be able to guide you precisely for the time we have left.

  • I have no scenes and no partner. Can you help me?

Absolutely! With coaching I help you rigorously choose your audition scenes, and making a good choice of scenes is very important .

We will also discuss how to choose your partner wisely , another essential element not to be overlooked!

This is one point that we can address during our first free 30-minute meeting (or call).

It's often these kinds of details that make all the difference!

  • Do I really need a coach to prepare for my auditions?

It is not mandatory, but highly recommended : each year, between 250 and 450 candidates apply, and the vast majority of them are accompanied by a coach .

Why? Because a coach provides an outside perspective , a clear method , and valuable advice so that you can showcase your game on the big day.

Coaching will also help you develop your talent for the rest of your career!

  • I don't live near Montreal. Can you coach me remotely?

For drama school auditions, it's better to do in-person coaching ; it's smoother, simpler, and more effective.

But! If you can't find a coach in your area, I can still do remote coaching without any problem.

However, I advise you to come and do one or two sessions in person , just before the auditions, when you come to the location.
