FAQ
Acting Show Workshop
-
What is the purpose of the course?
To encourage artists to create, produce, and perform in shows.
So many actors we love watching work perform and act in stage plays, between film and television roles, in their own intimate little theater belonging to their artistic company.
The Plateau Théâtre structure allows actors to create shows and encourages them to play roles that nourish us artistically, and to work from the works of great writers.
This course notably allows you to learn how to do that, step by step, with the goal of having a complete show experience, and making your future creations easier to carry out!
-
What do rehearsals look like?
- The first session, we set up what follows. We will:
-
Learn all the steps to create and manage a show through shared agreement
-
Define the game plan for each rehearsal - notably the last two weeks, including the show week - and the production steps for the show
-
Develop warm-up and preparation tools, which will be applied in the following weeks and during the show
-
Determine and read the scenes you will work on and perform
- From the 2nd to the 7th session:
-
Rehearsals and teamwork
-
Staging of the works being developed
-
Preparation for the technical dress rehearsal: ongoing notes on the props used to optimize scene changes
- The 8th session:
-
Technical dress rehearsal. We handle lighting, stage management, and set changes.
-
Full run-through of the entire show
- The 9th session:
-
Final dress rehearsal. Like a performance but without an audience
- The 3 show days:
-
Friday and Saturday evening; Sunday afternoon. Performances in front of family, friends, and strangers that you will have gathered

Is the show a ACTRA or UDA production?
The show will neither be ACTRA nor UDA, for the simple reason that the UDA does not authorize this type of show if none of the actors are already trainee or active UDA members.
And ACTRA does not permits to enter its structure with a show like this.
It will therefore officially take the form of an amateur production.
That said, it is a simulation of a UDA show. You will therefore gain knowledge of all the steps needed to create your future UDA production, giving you all the keys in hand, in addition to having access to the Plateau Théâtre structure- if you ask for it - and its performance venue afterward.
Creating a UDA show will feel easier and more accessible to you!
Note for anglophones: To do a UDA show, what is said on stage needs to be at least 50% in french. For example, you do a short play in english, and the other short play will be in french.

I arrived too late and missed the deadline. Will this course be offered next winter or fall?
The course will most likely be offered on an occasional basis, once or twice a year, depending on demand and venue availability.
Contact me to learn more, ask any questions, and get on the waiting list for the next course.
In the meantime, you can register for my ongoing acting class on Wednesday evenings, at the same place.
-
I'm not sure I'll be available that long. Can I withdraw from the project at the beginning?
No! Except in cases of force majeure, this is teamwork.
We need the artist's commitment throughout the entire project, if only out of respect for the other actors involved in the show.
So make sure you can honor your commitment for the 9 weeks of rehearsal, as well as for the performances.
-
Could this kind of project help me get noticed in the industry?
Yes! It's entirely possible for you, if you don't have an agent, to invite talent agents to come see you work, so they can judge your level!
That said, two things to note:
-
Make sure you have a scene that serves you well; if you specifically want to tackle a big challenge for yourself, that's absolutely possible and a very good thing, but invite the agent another time!
-
Also make sure you have a video acting demo. Starting in 2027, some casting agents will only propose artists who have a quality acting demo. An agency may therefore ask you for a demo, even if they come see you work in the show.
-
I don't know which scene to perform. Will scenes be suggested to me?
Yes, depending on the teams and pairings, I will suggest working on certain scenes, ideally before rehearsals begin. Otherwise, we'll decide on the first day of rehearsal.
You will still need to come with your own suggestions as well.
After all, it's your work and your progress!
-
I don't have any experience. Should I take classes first, or can I start directly with the Atelier Spectacle?
It's preferable for someone who is just starting out to first take acting classes.
In an acting class, there's no pressure from production, no time pressure - you can move at your own pace, working specifically on what you need to improve, without pressure for results and without having to think about technical requirements.
It is therefore recommended to have at least a few months of experience before joining the Atelier Spectacle.
I invite you to check out my page on ongoing acting classes to learn more.
-
Is the Atelier Spectacle bilingual?
Yes! You can absolutely perform in your preferred language, whether French or English.
If none of the other students speak your language (this can happen), you can absolutely choose a monologue instead.
-
What are the specifics of the venue?
The intimate theater where rehearsals and performances take place is called Plateau Théâtre, located at 5445 De Gaspé, studio 407.
Here are its features:
-
25 seats
-
8 lighting spots
-
A simple control booth
-
Black curtains and some sets and props already on site.
The rest of the sets, costumes, and advertising for the show will be the responsibility of the artists, as part of their learning process.
Audience reception and stage management will be handled by me.
